Leon Russell Piano Dedication & Tribute Concert
Live concert featuring musicians who played and toured with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member, the late Leon Russell, held in the auditorium of historic Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where this music icon honed his techniques that inspired other luminaries such as Sir Elton John.
It will feature interviews with those who knew him well. The recently restored 1938 Baldwin grand piano that Leon played as a student will be prominently featured in the concert and dedicated to Leon. Memorabilia from Leon’s estate, borrowed from the historic Church Studio collection, will be on display for this concert. Leon owned Church Studio from 1972 to 1976.
Paul Benjaman is the music director. Music historian, author, and radio-TV personality John Wooley is master of ceremonies. The producer is Dick Risk. This concert will be recorded live by Oklahoma State University media services for delayed streaming and on-demand access via cable and Internet. The concert is underwritten by the Will Rogers High School Community Foundation with generous support from Teresa Knox and Church Studio, which is being restored to its former glory as a world-class recording venue.
